Zomato ordered to pay a customer $10,000 for cancelling a pizza order

The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh has ordered Zomato, the online food delivery company, to pay a customer ₹10000 rupees and provide a free meal for cancelling an order of pizza. Despite their campaign, “Zomato users will now get their food on time guaranteed or get their money back,” Zomato cancelled the order.

According to a complaint filed by Ajay Sharma, he ordered pizza from Zomato at 10:15 p.m. He paid 287.70 via Paytm, which included taxes and a tenner for on-time delivery. However, at 10:30 p.m., Zomato declined the order and a refund was initiated. Ajay Sharma filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection Authority in New Delhi. While Ajay Sharma was reimbursed, he requested that Zomato either fulfil their promise or remove their promotional advertisement “kabhi to late ho jaata.” He sought restitution for the harassment. His plea, however, was rejected. He later pleaded guilty in front of the state commission.
