Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, took to Facebook to announce the latest addition to WhatsApp’s capabilities. He highlighted that users can now instantly record and share video messages in their WhatsApp chats, making it as easy as sending a quick voice message. Zuckerberg also provided a demonstration of the new feature on Facebook, emphasizing its usability in both one-on-one and group conversations.
WhatsApp Video Messaging Functionality and Early Access
WhatsApp officially announced the new video messaging feature in a blog post. The feature allows users to record and send video messages for various occasions. It is similar to Snapchat’s instant video messaging but with a key difference – the videos won’t disappear after being viewed. Users can get early access to this feature by updating their WhatsApp application to the latest version from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. The global rollout of the feature is currently in progress.
Easy-to-Use Video Mode with End-to-End Encryption
The video messaging button will be located on the same panel as the voice note button in WhatsApp. Users can simply click the button to enter video mode and press and hold the record button to start recording. Alternatively, they can swipe up to lock the video and record hands-free. When opened in a conversation, videos will automatically play on mute, and users can click the video to activate the audio. WhatsApp assures users that their video chats are safe and secure due to the implementation of end-to-end encryption.
