US DoJ Said to Open Probe Into Coinbase Data Breach, Firm Claims Involvement of Indian Employees

Coinbase is cooperating with US law enforcement following a data breach where cybercriminals allegedly bribed employees and contractors to leak user data. The exchange claims these individuals were based in India. The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in investigating the incident, focusing on identifying and prosecuting the cybercriminals responsible. Coinbase has emphasized that the investigation is not targeting the exchange itself, but rather the perpetrators of the data breach and bribery scheme. They are actively assisting authorities to bring the cybercriminals to justice. The company remains committed to protecting user data and bolstering its security measures following the incident.
