US charges four over Nvidia chip smuggling case as calls grow for tighter export tracking

Two American and two Chinese nationals are accused of routing Nvidia chips to China via third countries, a scheme that’s now fueling louder demands for tighter tracking of US chip flows.

The US Department of Justice announced on Thursday, November 19, that the accused exported 400 Nvidia A100 GPUs to China through Malaysia between October 2024 and January 2025. This was allegedly done by creating fake contracts and providing false documentation to ship the chips illegally.
