NPCI has issued a circular asking banks to deactivate UPI IDs and numbers that have been inactive for over a year, setting a deadline for this December. This is important because telecom companies can issue deactivated mobile numbers to new subscribers after 90 days, which may lead to inadvertent transfers if users do not update their numbers in the banking systems.
