Uber to start rolling out teen accounts with safety features next week

During its annual product showcase, Uber unveiled a range of updates, including the launch of teen accounts aimed at providing a safer travel experience for younger individuals. Beginning May 22nd, Uber will gradually introduce teen accounts in select cities across the United States and Canada.

To ensure the safety of teen riders, Uber will only allow experienced and highly-rated drivers who have undergone screenings to provide trips to teens. Drivers will also have the option to opt out of such rides. Teen accounts will feature various built-in safety measures, including audio recordings, RideCheck (which proactively checks on riders if the vehicle remains stationary for an extended period), and the option for users to utilize a PIN to confirm they are entering the correct car.

Parents and guardians will have the ability to monitor the progress of their teen’s trip, contact the driver or Uber support directly, and report any concerns on their behalf.

In addition to transportation, teen accounts will also be available for Uber Eats. Through family profiles, parents can keep track of their children’s orders and conveniently pay for both food and rides from a centralized account.

Uber also announced another update on the family front—rides with car seats for younger children. The company will be utilizing Nuna’s Rava car seat, designed to support kids from birth up to 65 lbs (29.5 kg). Initially, these car seat rides will be available in New York City and Los Angeles, with plans to expand to more cities in the future.
