Twitch introduces clip editor for streamers to create and share vertical video clips

Streaming platform Twitch has unveiled a new product update aimed at streamers, introducing a clip editor tool that allows them to create and share short, vertical video clips effortlessly. The update, released on Thursday, offers a convenient in-platform solution for streamers who previously relied on third-party tools for editing.

Accessible through the clips manager in the creator dashboard, the clip editor provides a user-friendly editing experience. Users can choose between a split view, capturing two rectangular portions of a clip simultaneously (typically the game stream and the camera), or a streamlined full vertical snippet. The only other option is to toggle the inclusion of the channel name, which appears in the upper part of the clip.

Twitch’s clip editor also offers direct integration for social sharing on YouTube Shorts, making it easy for streamers to promote their content beyond the platform. While direct sharing to TikTok or Instagram Reels is not currently supported, Twitch has plans to add more integrations in the future.

The update reflects Twitch’s commitment to helping streamers grow their audiences and promotes cross-promotion through the broader social media ecosystem. By incorporating clip editing directly into the platform, Twitch aims to streamline the workflow for streamers and enhance their ability to engage with viewers.

Unlike other platforms grappling with identity crises, Twitch has maintained a clear focus on long-form livestreaming. However, the introduction of vertical, short-form video highlights Twitch’s potential to leverage clips and aid the discovery of new streamers.

Discovery remains a challenge on the platform, as creators are often bound by demanding streaming schedules. Twitch’s leadership recognizes the need to address this issue to ensure the sustainability of livestreaming in the long run.

While the clip editor currently serves as a convenient tool for creators, Twitch has the opportunity to further explore short-form video and expand its potential impact on discovery in the future. This recent update underscores Twitch’s commitment to its community and the continuous evolution of its platform.

Long before Edgar Wright’s The Running Man hits theaters this week, the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz had been thinking about making it. He read the original 1982 novel by Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) as a boy and excitedly went to theaters in 1987 to see the film version, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Wright enjoyed the adaptation but was a little let down by just how different it was from the novel. Years later, after he’d become a successful… Source link
