Social media platforms TikTok and Bumble have joined an initiative to prevent the sharing of non-consensual intimate images online.
StopNCII.org (Stop Non-Consensual Intimate Image Abuse) is a website that hosts a tool developed in collaboration with Meta. According to Engadget, TikTok, Bumble, Facebook, and Instagram will detect and block any images that contain hashes from StopNCII.org’s hash bank. The website employs on-device hashing technology, which allows people who are threatened with intimate image abuse to generate unique identifiers for their images (also known as ‘hashes’ or digital fingerprints).
