A number of multinational technology companies and large social media intermediaries met with the IT ministry to discuss proposed data storage rules in foreign jurisdictions.
According to the Associated Press, these companies have informed the government that the proposed definition of trusted geographies will necessitate significant investments in data storage units. Furthermore, if the government does not periodically update the norms and geographies, these investments are likely to go to waste. The government believes that the list will not specify which countries or territories will allow data storage, but rather which will not.
