TCS: TCS starts fresher hiring for 2024 batch

IT bellwether TCS has kickstarted its fresher hiring process for IT as well as business outsourcing roles through its national tests for the engineers as well as other graduates for the batch of 2024. This comes at a time when the $250 billion IT industry, which is witnessing a slowdown in business over the about-to-end ongoing fiscal year, is expecting growth to return by the second half of FY25 starting April.

Launching its annual TCS national qualifier test (NQT) exclusively for students graduating in 2024, the Tata group’s IT major has called engineers and computer graduates to apply for Ninja and Digital fresher hiring, TCS’ aptitude and coding tests. The last date for application is April 10 and tests will be conducted on April 26.

Typically, TCS offers annual salary packages for freshers in the range of around Rs 3-4 lakh for undergraduates going as high as Rs 11-12 lakh per annum for post graduate candidates.

Through NQT, TCS calls for freshers with “academic degrees in Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) / Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) / Master of Technology (M.Tech.) / Master of Engineering (M.E.) / Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A.) / Master of Science (M.Sc. / M.S.) in any specialization offered by recognized universities / colleges”, the TCS website’s career page said.

The Mumbai-headquartered Tata group subsidiary has also started to hire for TCS business processing specialists (BPS) with openings for Arts, Commerce, and Science graduates from 2024.

TCS BPS is opening its gates for Arts, Commerce, and Science graduates from 2024 to be registered before April 14, 2024, the careers page added.

Earlier this month, ET reported that TCS and its younger rival Infosys are also rolling out smaller recruitment drives to hire junior and mid-level talent with a focus on specific technology skills.Although the exact number of hiring and that through college campus placements could not be ascertained, the total fresher hiring is likely to be slower than the previous years.

In a breather last week, ET also reported that the IT industry is seeing a pick-up in hiring mandates by major software services firms. Staffing firms are expecting actual hiring to increase in H2 of this year by 7-8% from last year.

Over four quarters till December, the headcount at TCS, India’s largest software services firm, had dropped by 10,669 to a total of 603,305 employees at the end of the third quarter.

In January, in the third quarter results conference call, Milind Lakkad, chief human resource officer at TCS, had said, “We are committed to hiring from college campuses and growing talent organically. We have commenced our campus hiring process for the next year and see tremendous excitement among freshers to join TCS.”

TCS will report its fourth-quarter financial results for FY24 on April 12.
