Swiggy Launches ‘Seal’ Programme To Boost Food Hygiene Standards

Foodtech major Swiggy has unveiled a new initiative to boost hygiene and food quality standards among its restaurant partners. 

The ‘Seal’ programme, which is currently live in Pune, will be gradually scaled up during November to cover over 650 cities across India, Swiggy said in a statement.

It aims to enhance restaurant hygiene practices, providing restaurant partners with insights and actionable support to ensure the delivery of hygienic, well-cooked food in high-quality packaging.

“Since the programme’s launch two weeks ago, restaurant partners have shown high interest, with hundreds of requests for hygiene audits already received. Should any concerns arise about a restaurant holding the Seal, Swiggy will thoroughly review the feedback and may revoke the badge if the restaurant fails to maintain the established standards,” the statement added.

Through this initiative, Swiggy will provide verified customer feedback to restaurant partners, focusing on contamination prevention, optimal cooking, and packaging quality. This will help restaurants identify areas for improvement and enhance hygiene practices. Swiggy will also offer support via dedicated account managers, systematic reports, and educational webinars on hygiene best practices to help restaurants maintain high standards.

Deepak Maloo, head of customer and restaurant experience at Swiggy Food, said, “As Swiggy completes a decade in food delivery, we believe that access to clean, hygienic food is just as important as great-tasting food. With the launch of the Swiggy Seal, we aim to support our restaurant partners with actionable insights to improve hygiene standards. The Swiggy Seal gives customers confidence to order, backed by genuine reviews, while helping restaurant partners enhance their practices through expert collaboration.”

The food delivery platform has partnered with FSSAI-accredited agencies like Eurofins and Equinox to offer restaurants professional hygiene audits at exclusive rates. These partnerships will focus on improving contamination prevention, food handling, and cleanliness. 

The development aligns with Swiggy’s recent service expansions, including the launch of Swiggy Bolt for 10-minute food delivery in six cities and Swiggy XL EV fleet for bulk orders in Gurugram. The company is also piloting a premium membership programme, Rare Club, with annual fees starting from INR 50,000, aimed at high-end consumers.

Meanwhile, a few days back Swiggy also increased its platform fee to INR 10 from INR 7 per order on its food delivery service, marking a 43% rise, following rival Zomato’s suit.

On the financial front, Swiggy reported revenue of INR 11,247 Cr in FY24, with the food delivery business generating a GOV of INR 24,717 Cr. The company’s losses narrowed by 44% to INR 2,350 Cr in FY24 from INR 4,179.3 Cr in FY23.
