Spacetech startup Pixxel to launch third demo satellite

Spacetech startup Pixxel to launch Anand, its third hyperspectral satellite, at 12 p.m. on Saturday (November 26th). Pixxel’s hyperspectral microsatellite Anand weighs 15 kg and has more than 150+ bands, allowing it to see Earth in greater detail than non-hyperspectral satellites, according to the startup.

The low-Earth orbit satellite will be 500 kilometres above the Earth’s surface. Pixxel’s founder, Awais Ahmed, is said to be planning the launch of six commercial satellites in the coming quarters. He went on to say that Pixxel is looking for buyers in the agritech, climatetech, and gas and oil sectors who are interested in purchasing high-resolution images captured by microsatellites. The news comes just months after Pixxel launched its first commercial imaging satellite, Shakuntala. The satellite was launched into space by the SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket.
