Rapido files suit in Supreme Court after Bombay High Court orders service suspension in Maharashtra

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 17) agreed to hear the appeal of mobility startup Rapido against the Bombay High Court order stopping it from operating bike taxis and auto-rickshaws in Maharashtra.

After hearing the case, a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud agreed to schedule a hearing on January 23. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi requested an urgent hearing and stated that the company employs thousands of people. The Bombay High Court ordered Rapido to immediately cease operations in Maharashtra because the startup lacks a taxi aggregator licence and operates illegally in the state.
