Pure Storage: For enterprises, preparing data for AI will be a big challenge: Pure Storage CEO

Data localisation is becoming a very large issue for the multinationals as well as Indian companies, Charles Giancarlo, chief executive of US flash data storage company Pure Storage, told ET.In this context, he said data storage is antiquated in the enterprise environment as they are still using technologies that are many decades old – treating data storage as separate silos of data rather than as a cloud of data. With AI taking on a more pronounced role in enterprise operations, being able to get access to real time data where it lives natively is going to be a big challenge for enterprises over the next several years, because their data systems are not set up to be able to easily access data in different environments, Giancarlo said.

“For enterprises in particular, data management – getting access to the data and preparing the data for AI – is going to be a very large challenge,” he said. “Even if they are using third-party AI environments, to get their data ready to be accessed by AI is going to be a very big challenge. Then, of course, there’s the whole issue of being able to provide data storage that operates at the speed of AI.”

Giancarlo said Pure Storage relies heavily on its development centre in Bengaluru, which is one among three such centres globally, to drive innovation across geographies.
