Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi bringing satellite communication to their devices through Qualcomm

Qualcomm announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that several phone manufacturers, including Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Motorola, Nothing, and Honor, will add satellite communication capabilities to their devices.

However, manufacturers did not specify which devices would be the first to have these features or when they would be available. Qualcomm unveiled its Snapdragon Satellite technology last month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in collaboration with satellite service provider Iridium. Using this solution, smartphones will be able to use satellites for two-way texting and other messaging applications in emergency situations. Snapdragon Satellite will be available in upcoming RF modems as well as multiple models of 8 and 4 series processors for smartphones, according to the chipmaker.
