OpenAI has announced the expansion of its custom instructions feature, which grants users greater control over ChatGPT’s responses, to all users, including those on the free tier of the service. Initially introduced in July as a beta for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, this feature empowers users to define specific preferences and requirements for the AI chatbot’s interactions.
OpenAI Enhanced Efficiency and Personalization
This feature offers a time-saving benefit by eliminating the need for users to repeatedly input the same instruction prompts in their interactions with ChatGPT. For instance, users can now instruct ChatGPT to adhere to a specific character count or adjust the tone of its responses to their liking.
OpenAI Diverse Applications for Custom Instructions
OpenAI provided examples of how custom instructions could be applied. A teacher crafting a lesson plan, for instance, can avoid repeatedly specifying their grade level, resulting in more tailored responses. Developers, on the other hand, can request responses in preferred languages or exclude certain languages altogether.
Accessibility for All Users
Previously, custom instructions were exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who paid $20 per month. However, OpenAI has now made this feature accessible to both free and Plus users, across iOS and Android platforms.
A User-Friendly Approach
To utilize custom instructions, users can easily navigate to the feature by clicking on their name and selecting “Custom instructions.” OpenAI further revealed that this feature will soon expand to users in the European Union and the United Kingdom, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing user experiences on a global scale.
