Ola Launches Parcel Delivery Service via Electric 2Ws in Bengaluru

Ola, a prominent ride-hailing company, has introduced a parcel delivery service utilizing electric two-wheelers in Bengaluru. This move positions Ola in competition with Uber and Swiggy Genie, signaling its entry into the logistics and last-mile delivery space.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder of Ola, made the announcement by sharing, “Launching Ola Parcel today in Bengaluru! Start of an all-electric 2W logistics ecosystem for India! ₹25 for 5km, Rs 50 for 10km, Rs 75 for 15 km, Rs 100 for 20km! You can use tonight onwards. Expanding across India very soon!”

While the specific details of Ola’s parcel delivery service are yet to be disclosed, similar services by Uber and Swiggy Genie typically cater to the delivery of parcels that fit easily into a bag or weigh less than 5 kg. Swiggy Go, originally introduced as an instant delivery service in Bengaluru in 2019, was rebranded as Swiggy Genie in 2020 and expanded to 30 different cities in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdowns. Uber introduced a comparable service called “Connect” within its app in 2020, initially limited to Gurugram, Guwahati, Jaipur, and Kolkata.

In June, Gogoro, an electric vehicle battery-swapping solutions provider, announced a partnership with Swiggy to promote its electric smart scooters among last-mile delivery partners of the on-demand convenience delivery platform across India.

Long before Edgar Wright’s The Running Man hits theaters this week, the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz had been thinking about making it. He read the original 1982 novel by Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) as a boy and excitedly went to theaters in 1987 to see the film version, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
