The Ministry of Interior (MOI) UAE has officially launched its annual Accident Free Day 2025 campaign, aimed at promoting safe driving habits and reducing road incidents on one of the busiest days of the year — the first day of the school term. Scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025, the initiative offers a valuable incentive: motorists who drive responsibly without causing accidents will have four black points removed from their driving record by September 15.
This year’s campaign comes as more than one million students return to classrooms across the Emirates, causing increased road congestion and heightened traffic risks. The Accident Free Day initiative is designed to encourage motorists to prioritize safety, remain alert, and strictly follow traffic regulations during this high-traffic period.
Incentives and Safety Guidelines
Under the program, drivers who commit to the pledge and avoid traffic violations on Accident Free Day 2025 will enjoy the removal of four black points — a considerable benefit in the UAE’s strict traffic penalty system. Black points are assigned for serious violations such as reckless driving, speeding, and using mobile phones while driving. Accumulating 24 black points within 12 months can lead to license suspension.
Motorists are urged to follow essential safety measures, including:
- Wearing seatbelts at all times
- Adhering to speed limits
- Maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles
- Avoiding mobile phone use and other distractions while driving
The campaign is not just about avoiding penalties but also about fostering a culture of responsibility on the roads.
Strong Support from Authorities
Brigadier Engineer Hussein Al Harthi, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council at MOI, emphasized the significance of the campaign, stating:
“We are keen to launch campaigns to boost traffic safety by encouraging positive behaviours among drivers. The priority is to ensure the safety of pupils and all road users during this critical period.”
The initiative has already proven popular in previous years, with over 300,000 drivers signing up in 2024.
How to Participate in Accident Free Day 2025
Participation is straightforward. Motorists can register by visiting the Ministry of Interior’s official website, logging in, and signing the Accident Free Day pledge. By committing to a day of safe, violation-free driving, participants not only contribute to community safety but also benefit from reduced black points.
A Timely Reminder for Road Safety
Dr. Mustafa Al Dah, an Emirati road safety researcher, stressed that the start of the school year is an ideal time for heightened road safety awareness:
“We often have to remind parents, teachers, school bus drivers, and all motorists about the importance of road safety. Unfortunately, rare but tragic incidents have occurred near schools, and this campaign serves as a powerful reminder to remain vigilant.”
Why Accident Free Day 2025 Matters
The Accident Free Day 2025 campaign is more than a one-day event — it’s part of a broader effort to make UAE roads safer year-round. With population growth leading to busier roads, the Ministry of Interior recognizes the need for ongoing public engagement to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
This initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision to become a global leader in road safety, emphasizing that safety is a shared responsibility between authorities and the public.
