Microsoft has begun laying off employees at its India Development Centres, or research and development divisions, in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Microsoft announced earlier this week that it would lay off 10,000 employees, or less than 5% of its global workforce. According to the company’s website, the US-based company employs 18,000 people in six Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gurugram, and Pune. According to one source, employees at Microsoft India can expect more layoffs in the marketing and sales divisions in the coming months.
