Meta took action against 22.8 million pieces of content on Facebook and Instagram

Social media group Meta released its monthly compliance report for the month of June 2022 on Monday (August 1). In total, the tech behemoth took action against 22.8 million pieces of content on its Facebook and Instagram platforms during the month.

At around 18.7 million, Facebook accounted for the majority of these content pieces. The majority of Facebook content was tagged as ‘Spam’ (9.9 million), followed by content related to violence (3.9 million), adult nudity (2.5 million), suicide, and self-injury (601K). Content related to child endangerment (470.9K), terrorism (445.7K), and online harrassment (288.8K) were also targeted. According to the tech giant, its proactive action rate on Facebook was between 80% and 100%. The percentage of content flagged by the company before being reported by users is known as the proactive action rate.

According to the compliance report, Instagram took action against 4.1 million pieces of action in June 2022. The majority (1.5 million) were related to violent and graphic content, followed by suicide and self-injury (1.2 Mn). Adult nudity content (619.5K), bullying and online harassment (297.7K), and terrorism (197.6K) were also targeted, among other policy areas. On Instagram, the proactive action rate ranged between 70 and 100 percent.
