Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, has announced new policies regarding political advertising in preparation for the upcoming elections in 2024. To prevent the misuse of their platforms, Meta will require political advertisers to disclose the use of AI or other digital techniques in creating or altering ads. This disclosure applies to ads containing photorealistic images, videos, or realistic audio that depict fabricated content. Additionally, if an ad includes a realistic-looking person or event that is not real or alters footage of a real event, it must be clearly mentioned in the ad. Meta’s comprehensive approach aims to protect the integrity of next year’s elections.
