Mercedes-Benz India partners with IISc for electric vehicle research

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) has announced a significant collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) centered on advancing research in electric vehicles (EVs).

The collaboration, detailed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) spanning two years, aims to foster joint research initiatives and drive innovative solutions specifically in the EV domain.

According to Manu Saale, the Managing Director and CEO of MBRDI, this partnership between industry and academia holds the promise of delivering cutting-edge innovations that align with the changing needs of both the industry and consumers.

Saale expressed enthusiasm by stating, “We are excited at the possibilities of working closely with the Indian Institute of Science and look forward to bringing the best of Indian engineering research to the global stage.”

The primary focus of this collaboration is to instigate a shift in engineering methodologies and delve into long-term research-oriented projects. Emphasizing the utilization of each other’s strengths, including existing infrastructure and academic programs, both MBRDI and IISc aim to leverage their capabilities for mutual benefit.

Goindan Rangarajan, Director of IISc, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in advancing research and innovation in sustainable mobility and EVs. Rangarajan emphasized, “The partnership reinforces our commitment to strengthen industry-academia engagements that can make a significant impact in the coming years.”

The partnership also involves the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID), entrusted with managing IISc’s interactions with the industry. FSID’s role is pivotal in facilitating access to IISc’s reservoir of knowledge and resources to ensure seamless collaboration.
