Meesho’s CPO Kirti Varun Avasarala resigns, marking second high-profile exit

Meesho’s Chief Product Officer, Kirti Varun Avasarala, is set to depart from the e-commerce startup after a four-year tenure. This marks the second high-level departure at the Bengaluru-based company within three months, following the exit of Chief Experience Officer Utkrishta Kumar in October. Avasarala, with over 15 years of experience, previously worked at companies such as Flipkart and Amazon, direct competitors of Meesho.

Utkrishta Kumar left Meesho to start his fintech venture, while Avasarala’s next career move is currently unknown. The company confirmed Avasarala’s departure and expressed gratitude for his impactful role in shaping the product organization. A Meesho spokesperson mentioned, “We thank Kirti for a highly impactful 4-year tenure as the Chief Product Officer at Meesho.”

Avasarala’s departure comes shortly after Meesho underwent restructuring in its leadership team. Megha Agarwal, formerly the CXO of growth, was appointed as the new CXO, of business.

The company split Agarwal’s earlier role into three categories, assigning responsibilities for user growth, product quality, and net merchandise value (NMV) retention to various internal executives. Nilesh Gupta, Sourabh Pandey, and Megha Agarwal continue to report to Aatrey, CEO of Meesho.

Meesho, a SoftBank-backed e-commerce platform, reported a 77 percent growth in revenue from operations, increasing from Rs 3,232 crore in FY22 to Rs 5,735 crore in FY23. Concurrently, the company halved its losses from Rs 3,251 crore in FY22 to Rs 1,675 crore in FY23. Meesho has yet to file its final results with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
