Austria’s much-loved cultural celebration, the Lange Nacht der Museen (Long Night of Museums), returns tonight for its 25th edition, inviting visitors to explore over 660 museums and galleries across Austria and neighboring regions — including 131 venues in Vienna alone. From 18:00 to 24:00, art lovers can enjoy a single ticket that grants access to an extraordinary range of institutions, from grand museums to quirky niche collections.
Vienna’s 131 Museums Offer a Night of Discovery
In Vienna, the Lange Nacht der Museen 2025 includes famous landmarks like the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Naturhistorisches Museum, and the Albertina, as well as hidden gems such as the Museum der Nerdigkeit and the Kaiser Franz Joseph Hat Museum.
Along the pedestrian museum route in the city center, 81 museums are within walking distance, creating a lively cultural trail through Vienna’s historic core.
A highlight this year is the Naturhistorisches Museum’s “Auspacken!” exhibition, where visitors can see newly uncovered Stone Age artifacts from Hallstatt and even peek inside customs-confiscated suitcases containing illegal souvenirs.
Unique Exhibits and Experiences
At the Pharma- und Drogistenmuseum, guests can explore a recreated 1908 pharmacy filled with vintage tools and remedies from the past. The K.u.K. Kriegsmarine-Archiv presents artifacts from Austria’s long-forgotten naval history, while the Bestattungsmuseum Wien at the Vienna Central Cemetery offers a more macabre experience — including a chance to “test lie” in a coffin and listen to lectures on famous medical figures buried there.
Beyond the inner city, the Foto Arsenal Wien opens its doors for the exhibition “Science/Fiction: A Non-History of Plants”, featuring 40 international artists exploring the boundary between science, art, and imagination.
Activities for Families and Children
The Lange Nacht der Museen 2025 isn’t just for adults — more than 60 museums across Vienna are hosting child-friendly programs. The Belvedere Museum presents its famous Gustav Klimt masterpiece “The Kiss” alongside an interactive treasure hunt for kids titled “The Fantastic Palastics – Mission Museum.”
Meanwhile, the Society and Economic Museum and the Coffee Museum are offering interactive workshops where children can learn about sustainability and responsible money management through play.
Tickets and Transport
Tickets for the Lange Nacht der Museen are priced at €19 for adults, €16 for discounted entry, and free for children under 12. The ticket includes access to all participating museums, as well as public transport and special shuttle buses connecting major cultural sites throughout Vienna.
Visitors can purchase tickets and collect route maps at the Maria-Theresien-Platz “Treffpunkt Museum”, open from 9:00 a.m. on the day of the event.
Celebrating 25 Years of Culture and Connection
This year’s edition marks 25 years since the Austrian broadcaster ORF launched the Lange Nacht der Museen, which has since grown into one of Europe’s most celebrated cultural nights. The event extends beyond Austria to include Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Germany, reflecting its growing international appeal.
With exhibitions ranging from ancient history to contemporary art, the 2025 event promises to once again highlight Vienna’s role as one of the world’s great cultural capitals — uniting history, art, and innovation under one starry October night.
