Jack Dorsey-backed Twitter alternative Bluesky hits the App Store as an invite-only app

Bluesky, a Twitter alternative backed by Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey, has arrived on the App Store, and more testers are being granted access. Though the app is still only available as an invite-only beta, its appearance on the App Store suggests that a public launch is on the way.

Bluesky hasn’t been heard much from since October 2022, when the project’s team shared an update on the Bluesky blog about the status of the social protocol that powers its new Twitter-like app, also called Bluesky. Bluesky’s main effort is AT (“Authenticated Transfer Protocol”), while the Bluesky mobile app serves to demonstrate the protocol in action. AT, like the ActivityPub protocol that powers Mastodon, allows you to build a federated and decentralised social network.
