infosys wfh: Infosys’ flexi stance helps staffers avail more remote work options

India’s second largest IT company, Infosys, has taken a softer and more flexible approach when it comes to returning to the “work from office” mode after the pandemic.

Employees at the Bengaluru-based company have leveraged more remote working options in FY24 than in FY23, shows its ESG (environmental, social, and governance) report that ET has seen. This comes at a time when other tech companies are bringing in stricter mandates for employees to work from office.

In FY24, about 84% of Infosys employees leveraged remote working options, compared with 75% in FY23. The figure was 97% in fiscal 2022, when the world was gripped by the Covid pandemic.

Questions mailed to Infosys didn’t elicit any response till the time of going to press Wednesday.

The IT major has also set itself a target of delivering 33% of its work by leveraging flexible/remote work options by 2030, the report said.

“With many employees preferring to work out of their base locations in tier-2 and -3 cities following the Covid-19 pandemic, Infosys made a strategic decision to open offices in tier-2 cities to help them work locally. This strategy is expected to have a two-fold impact: It can boost the local ecosystem and reduce construction in the big cities, thereby reducing pollution and water stress. In line with this strategy, in fiscal 2024, we opened two offices in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu),” said the ESG report of the company.

To reduce the travel stress on employees, Infosys has also set up smaller offices within tier-1 cities. “The Infosys North Gate office in Bengaluru is one such example. Along with reducing travel stress for employees, these have also created opportunities for local talent,” added the report.

Post-pandemic workplace transformation is currently being implemented at scale, Infosys said. The reimagined workplace supports people to work in the hybrid mode and encourages them to work collaboratively, the report said. “Transformed workplace aligning to the new normal increases productivity, health and wellness and provides a refreshing experience to the employees, while ensuring efficient usage of resources.”

In its FY24 annual report, Infosys had said that the hybrid work model “is about our people and their comfort. It offers the flexibility of working from home and working from office in a hybrid work model”.

The model operates according to different employee contexts: those in the same city as their office and those in other locations, it said in the annual report. “As part of this strategy, we have set up offices in Visakhapatnam, Noida, Hubballi, Indore, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur and Coimbatore in India over the last few years.”

The IT major recently also announced a transfer policy offering an incentive package to employees open to take a transfer to its Hubballi development centre, as the company seeks to strengthen its operations in the tier-2 city in the Mumbai-Karnataka region.

Long before Edgar Wright’s The Running Man hits theaters this week, the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz had been thinking about making it. He read the original 1982 novel by Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) as a boy and excitedly went to theaters in 1987 to see the film version, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Wright enjoyed the adaptation but was a little let down by just how different it was from the novel. Years later, after he’d become a successful… Source link
