Hollywood video game voice and motion capture actors, represented by SAG-AFTRA, have ratified a new contract with video game studios, ending a strike that lasted nearly a year. A key focus of the agreement is protection against the misuse of artificial intelligence.
According to Sarah Elmaleh, a prominent voice actor involved in the negotiations, AI safeguards were a central demand. The new contract aims to control how studios utilize AI to replicate performers’ voices and movements, addressing concerns about job displacement and unauthorized use of digital likenesses. While specific details haven’t been fully released, the agreement signifies a significant step in regulating AI’s role within the gaming industry and protecting the rights of performers.
