Indian REITs Association Joins the Global REIT Alliance, Strengthening International Collaboration on Real Estate Investment Trust

The Indian REITs Association (IRA) announced joining the Global REIT Alliance, an international coalition dedicated to advancing the Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) sector worldwide. The Global REIT Alliance is committed to strengthening REITs as a trusted asset class and expanding investment opportunities globally. The Alliance was officially launched recently at the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA)’s 2025 ReThink conference in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Global REIT Alliance brings together 24 countries and regions, creating a unified voice for REIT advocacy and a platform for knowledge-sharing and standard-setting. The IRA’s membership marks a significant milestone for India’s rapidly growing REIT market, underscoring its increasing importance on the global stage.

Key Objectives of the Alliance

The Alliance has outlined six core objectives to achieve its mission:

  • Raise Global Awareness: Enhance international understanding of the benefits of securitised real estate and promote modern REIT markets
  • Forge a Global Network: Provide a platform for REIT advocates to share strategies, market intelligence, and industry best practice
  • Influence Public Policy: Inform policymakers worldwide about effective REIT policy frameworks
  • Guide Standards Setting: Assist in developing relevant, fit-for-purpose voluntary standards and benchmarks for the REIT industry
  • Lead on Sustainable Investment: Support initiatives to strengthen environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards within the industry
  • Encourage an Informed Marketplace: Collaborate with stakeholders to generate and share high-quality data on market trends and performance

Ms Preeti Chheda, Executive Committee Member of the Indian REITs Association and CFO of Mindspace Business Parks REIT, who attended the launch event, said, “Becoming a part of the Global REIT Alliance marks a significant milestone for the Indian REIT market. This alliance provides a vital platform to collaborate with global REIT community, exchange market perspectives, and collectively drive the growth of REITs globally. We look forward to contributing to the Alliance’s mission of shaping and promoting opportunities for investing in REITs.”
Welcoming the Indian REITs Association, Mr. Peter Verwer, Spokesperson of the Global REIT Alliance, said, “We are delighted to welcome the Indian REITs Association to the Global REIT Alliance. India’s REIT market has already demonstrated remarkable growth in a relatively short span of time, and its inclusion will bring valuable insights and perspectives to the Alliance. Together, we aim to strengthen the global REIT ecosystem, broaden investor participation, and promote REITs as a trusted and transparent asset class worldwide.
