Indian Government to Computerize Agricultural and Rural Development Banks and State Cooperative Registrars

The Indian government has announced its plan to computerize the offices of state cooperative registrars and 1,851 branches of Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (ARDBs) through a centrally sponsored scheme with a budget of Rs 225.09 crore. Currently, the government is already in the process of computerizing all Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) nationwide.

The Ministry of Cooperation stated, “On the lines of the computerization scheme of all PACS in the country, a centrally sponsored scheme has been approved for computerization of 1,851 units of ARDBs of 13 states through a national unified software.” Additionally, the government will extend computerization efforts to the offices of the Registrar of Cooperatives in all states and Union Territories.

To oversee the successful implementation of this scheme, a Central Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) will be established. The total estimated expenditure for this initiative is Rs 225.09 crore.

The primary objective of this initiative is to improve accessibility to services provided by cooperative departments and ARDB offices, while also enhancing transparency and standardizing the operations of these offices. These changes are expected to increase efficiency and save time for both government entities and citizens.

The central government has taken several measures to strengthen cooperative societies throughout the country.
