In what could be a major setback for Chinese smartphone manufacturers, India is reportedly considering prohibiting Chinese players from selling phones for less than INR 12,000.
According to Bloomberg, the move is intended to push Chinese conglomerates out of the lower segment of the country’s mobile market and to jumpstart the local smartphone industry. The move comes amid growing concerns that high-volume brands like Realme and Transsion are undercutting local manufacturers. It is unclear whether the Centre will issue specific policies or communicate its position to Chinese players through informal channels.
