“I am a Chinese (national) and not a terrorist,” Li Xiongwei, CEO of Chinese telecom company Huawei Telecommunications (India), reportedly told a Delhi court on Friday.
According to the Economic Times, Xiongwei’s lawyer Vijay Aggarwal stated this in response to the Income Tax (I-T) Department’s opposition to his bail request. The I-T department previously informed the Delhi High Court that a look out circular (LOC) was issued against Xiongwei due to his conduct, which suggested he might leave India soon. However, the Huawei CEO petitioned the court to have the LOC revoked. According to the publication, the I-T Department stated that India does not have an extradition treaty with China and that bringing Xiongwei back would be “very difficult.” It is a source of concern because the investigation is still ongoing, according to an affidavit.
