Government expected to meet with Meta, Google, Microsoft and others to discuss the Digital India Act

The government will most likely begin organising meetings with stakeholders from across the country to discuss the upcoming draft Digital India Act before it is released for public comment.

The meetings are scheduled to begin in Hyderabad and then travel to other cities. According to ET, top companies such as Meta, Google, and Microsoft, as well as startups from India’s startup ecosystem, will participate. The draft Digital India Act is intended to be the successor to the Information Technology (IT) Act of 2000, and it is currently being worked on by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). While the draft Digital India Act’s details are still being kept under wraps, the government is expected to introduce new regulations for data storage, online gaming, cyberbullying, doxing, and other cybercrimes. The government is also planning to implement rules for ecommerce websites and AI-enabled platforms.
