Google’s Pixel Fold 2 might come with a newer chip and more RAM |

After years of rumours, Google released its first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, last year at the I/O conference. As one would expect, Google might follow up with its second iteration this year, and rumours have it that the second-generation foldable of Google could bring some internal upgrades compared to Google’s latest Pixel 8 phones.
Google has been testing the Pixel Fold 2 internally for a few months now, an unnamed source told the Android Authority. The prototypes of the second-generation Pixel Fold had been tested with the Tensor G3, Google’s latest chip that also powers the Pixel 8 phones. However, as per the source, Google has recently begun testing the Tensor G4 chipset, codenamed “zumapro” for the Pixel Fold 2, codenamed “comet.” While this suggests that the Pixel Fold 2 might come with the Tensor G4 chipset, nothing is sure as of now.
It has been reported that the Tensor G4 chipset will feature Arm Cortex-X4, Cortex-A78, and Cortex-A55 cores. The chipset will be produced on Samsung’s node, similar to the current Tensor. However, sources suggest that Google may switch production to TSMC as early as 2025.
Apart from the Tensor G4 chipset, the Pixel Fold 2 prototypes feature 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Meanwhile, the Pixel Fold has 12GB RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
Pixel Fold 2 is still in the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) stage, several iterations away from Mass Production (MP). It is likely that it may not be ready for I/O 2024 launch. So, it might launch in October alongside the Pixel 9 series.

Apple may be developing an iPhone with an under-display camera, and if it’s successful, it will be a remarkable achievement.  A recent rumor from Weibo user Digital Chat Station (translated into English) suggests that such a camera may appear in the 20th anniversary iPhone, which could be called the iPhone 20 and is expected to debut in 2027. The idea of an under-display camera for an iPhone would be novel, but it’s a feature that we’ve seen on several Android phones, with mixed results at best. An… Source link
