Google leased 3 million square feet of office space in Bengaluru

In a move that highlights its growing presence in India, Google has leased 3 million square feet of office space in Bengaluru. This move is part of the company’s larger plan to expand its operations in the country and tap into the growing demand for tech-related services in the region.

According to reports, the search engine giant has leased the office space from real estate developer Prestige Estates Projects. The deal is said to be one of the largest office space leasing transactions in India’s history, and it underscores Google’s commitment to the Indian market.

The office space is located in the city’s upmarket Koramangala area and is expected to be operational by mid-2023. The new facility will be home to a range of Google’s business operations, including engineering, product management, sales, and customer support. The company is also expected to hire several thousand employees for the new facility.

In a statement, Caesar Sengupta, Vice President, Payments and Next Billion Users at Google, said, “We are delighted to deepen our commitment to Bengaluru, which has emerged as the epicenter of innovation and technology in India. This investment underlines our belief in the enormous potential of India’s digital economy and our commitment to helping build it for the long term.”

The move comes at a time when India is witnessing a surge in demand for digital services, driven by the widespread adoption of smartphones and the increasing availability of affordable internet services. Bengaluru, in particular, has emerged as a hub for technology-related businesses, with several global tech giants, including Amazon and Microsoft, setting up their offices in the city.

The new facility will also enable Google to strengthen its ties with the local tech ecosystem in Bengaluru and collaborate with local startups and entrepreneurs. This, in turn, is expected to drive innovation and foster the growth of India’s digital economy.

Long before Edgar Wright’s The Running Man hits theaters this week, the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz had been thinking about making it. He read the original 1982 novel by Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) as a boy and excitedly went to theaters in 1987 to see the film version, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Wright enjoyed the adaptation but was a little let down by just how different it was from the novel. Years later, after he’d become a successful… Source link
