FIR Filed After Instagram Account Secretly Films Women on Bengaluru Metro, Sparks Public Outrage

The Bengaluru police have booked an Instagram user accused of secretly filming women on Metro trains without their consent and sharing the videos online. Deputy Commissioner of Police Lokesh B Jagalasar confirmed on Wednesday that a case has been registered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the individual.

The Instagram account, operating under the handle @metro_chicks (Bangalore Metro Clicks), had over 6,000 followers, and was linked to a Telegram channel named Speedy_Weedy123, which had around 1,188 subscribers. The page featured 13 videos, all showing women being followed and recorded on Bengaluru’s Namma Metro without their knowledge. Captions such as “finding beautiful girls on Namma Metro” accompanied the content. After facing backlash, the account disabled comments and later deleted all posts. The associated Telegram channel is also no longer accessible.

The issue came to light when a concerned user flagged the account on X (formerly Twitter), tagging the Bengaluru police and urging immediate action. The post quickly went viral, prompting widespread public outrage. Users expressed deep concern about safety and privacy on public transport, with many tagging officials and influencers to demand accountability.

BJP MP P C Mohan also condemned the act, calling it a serious crime and urging police to act promptly. In response, the Banashankari police registered a case under Section 67 of the IT Act (relating to obscene content online) and Section 78(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to stalking.
