Elizabeth Holmes sentenced to 11 years in prison for Theranos fraud

Elizabeth Holmes, the former CEO of Theranos, was sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison on Friday for her role in defrauding investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Holmes, once regarded as a Silicon Valley wunderkind, was sentenced to prison on April 27, 2023, in a case described by U.S. District Judge Edward Davila as “troubling on so many levels.”

A sobbing Holmes stood up and addressed the judge directly before Davila handed down his sentence. “If I could go back in time, there are so many things I would do differently. Every cell in my body regrets my failures “She stated. The defence attorneys for Holmes had hoped for a short prison sentence, or even home confinement. Holmes, who is 38 years old and expecting her second child, is scheduled to report to prison in five months. She will be under legal supervision for three years after her release.
