eBay appoints Vidmay Naini as general manager, covering regions like Southeast Asia and India

E-commerce platform eBay has named Vidmay Naini as its new general manager for global emerging markets, where he will lead the company’s expansion in Southeast Asia, India, Eastern Europe, Israel, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

In his previous role, Naini led eBay’s Southeast Asia and India businesses and was responsible for eBay’s strategic investment in Flipkart. With 18 years of experience at eBay, Naini is well-equipped to steer eBay’s growth in emerging markets.

The appointment comes as eBay highlighted the growth potential of small and medium-sized businesses in emerging markets. In a statement, Naini said that global e-commerce platforms like eBay can revolutionize export opportunities and expand the reach of small businesses. eBay’s recent report found that 99% of all small businesses on eBay currently export items to an average of 25 different international markets on an annual basis. In Southeast Asia, 68% of “eBay-enabled small businesses” in six countries export to ten or more international markets.

Naini has said that he expects to see strong growth in Southeast Asia, as eBay’s business in the region is just beginning to take hold. He believes that eBay is still a “very nascent business” in the region and that it has the potential to grow multifold. With Naini’s leadership, eBay will focus on expanding its services and offerings in these markets, helping small businesses reach a global audience and driving growth in the digital economy.

The move is part of eBay’s wider efforts to increase its global presence and compete with rivals like Amazon and Alibaba. With Naini’s experience and expertise, eBay hopes to make significant strides in emerging markets, where the digital economy is rapidly growing, and small businesses are leading the way.
