Coaching institutes and hybrid education centres to approach PMO against the edtech startups

The ongoing battle between offline education centres and edtech companies is set to heat up as some of India’s top coaching institutes and hybrid education centres prepare to file a complaint with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) against edtech startups.

The coaching institutes are preparing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other ministries. According to sources, the letter will call for “significant changes in education policy” in light of edtech behemoths like BYJU’s and Unacademy’s recent forays into the offline education space. According to one source, the coaching centres are allegedly violating India’s competition laws as well as engaging in unethical marketing/advertising practises such as poaching students and teachers by offering deep discounts on courses and exorbitant salary increases.
