Apple to use ISRO-made navigation system for new iPhone 15 series

Apple, the American technology giant, unveiled four new models in the iPhone 15 series during its recent ‘Wonderlust’ event, launching them in both the Indian and global markets. These latest iPhone models are set to become available in India starting September 22, with pre-orders beginning one week prior to their in-store availability. Notably, this event marked Apple’s first iPhone launch since the opening of its stores in Delhi and Mumbai.

Among its features, Apple’s iPhone includes Precision dual-frequency GPS, which encompasses GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, and NavIC. Of particular significance is the inclusion of NavIC, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar commented to news agency ANI, stating, “Apple, the world’s largest technology company, has introduced its new iPhone 15. This launch signifies two significant milestones for India. Firstly, the iPhone 15 will be available in India on the same day as it is in New York and London… Secondly, the iPhone 15 will incorporate the NavIC GPS satellite system, developed by ISRO.”
