Apple announced significant price increases for in-app purchases on the App Store in multiple countries across Asia and Europe. According to the company, the new prices will affect customers in Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, and Vietnam, as well as all other countries that use the Euro.
While the firm did not specify why, it is likely to counteract weak local currencies against the dollar. The percentage increase varies by region. Prices in South Korea, for example, have been raised by 20-25%, while in Japan, they have been raised by 30-35%, and in Euro-using regions, the increase is around 8-10%. This may differ depending on the tier. In Vietnam, Apple’s new price includes remitting applicable taxes, which are VAT and corporate income tax (CIT) at 5% rates.
