Amazon’s NFT marketplace may include Beeple and Pudgy Penguins

Amazon is putting the finishing touches on its in-house NFT initiative. At least one document indicates that Amazon is planning to sell digital collectibles from top crypto-native creators such as Beeple and Pudgy Penguins.

According to a confidential terms of service agreement reviewed by Blockworks, the Amazon NFT marketplace will run on a private and permissioned blockchain controlled by the e-commerce giant. A separate confidential Amazon deck reviewed by Blockworks confirmed the private blockchain, adding that Amazon Web Services (AWS) played a significant role in its creation. Neither document was confirmed to be the most recent version of Amazon’s plans.

According to sources, Amazon has shifted its launch timeline several times, and an exact unveil date cannot be confirmed.

According to documents, the blockchain powering Amazon’s digital collectibles is gas-free and read-only, and it imposes strict restrictions on NFT creators, partners, and — eventually — Amazon customers after launch. To protect the provenance of either document, Blockworks agreed not to directly quote from it.

According to multiple sources, Amazon has signed a number of partnerships for the launch that have been kept under wraps. According to one deck and a separate source, in addition to day-one partnerships with Beeple and the creators of Pudgy Penguins, Amazon has informed product partners that Artifact Labs and Proof Collective will be involved. Amazon has enacted strict non-disclosure agreements with current and potential Web3 partners.
