Amazon Launches Worldwide Last-Mile Fleet Program in India, Featuring Electric Vehicles

Amazon has launched its inaugural last-mile fleet program in India, and it’s making an environmentally conscious move by employing 100% electric vehicles. This initiative will empower more than 300 delivery service partners (DSPs) to transport goods with zero tailpipe emissions. The fleet management program, already operational in North America and Europe, is making its debut in India with specially designed electric vehicles (EVs).

The program offers DSPs customized EVs tailored for last-mile deliveries, encompassing maintenance, charging, and parking services. In an effort to enhance safety and punctuality in its Indian fleet, Amazon is leveraging data-driven strategies. Moreover, the company plans to expand the program by incorporating more electric three and four-wheelers over time.

Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, with the decarbonization of the delivery network being a vital component of this goal. Singh stated, “By launching the last mile fleet program with an all-electric fleet in India, we help our delivery service partners decarbonize with us.”

Amazon is also set to introduce Mahindra Zor Grand three-wheeler EVs for last-mile deliveries over the next two years. These electric vehicles are designed for regions with poor air quality and come equipped with a spacious 170 cubic feet delivery box and a substantial 400 kg payload capacity. They are capable of reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph and covering over 100 km on a single charge.

With the support of Mahindra Electric Mobility, Amazon has deployed more than 6,000 electric vehicles in over 400 cities across India, with a goal of expanding its electric vehicle fleet to 10,000 units by 2025. Suman Mishra, MD and CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, highlighted the positive impact of this endeavor, stating, “With zero tailpipe emissions and reliability at the core, our Mahindra Zor Grand will not only enhance cargo delivery efficiency but also contribute to improved air quality and lower driver fatigue.”

Long before Edgar Wright’s The Running Man hits theaters this week, the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz had been thinking about making it. He read the original 1982 novel by Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) as a boy and excitedly went to theaters in 1987 to see the film version, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
