Amazon is developing a standalone app for sports content

Amazon is working on a standalone app for watching sports. The move reflects Amazon’s continued investment in Prime Video and live sports content. If released, the standalone app would improve the visibility of Amazon’s sports content, which is currently available through the company’s main Prime Video platform.

The report comes as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently described live sports as a “unique asset” in which the company will continue to invest. Amazon currently has exclusive rights to the NFL’s Thursday Night Football, as well as some Premier League soccer matches and Yankees baseball games. Amazon has also invested in other sports content to supplement live games, launching original sports talk shows on Prime Video and its ad-supported streaming service Freevee.
