Ahead of the 2024 festive season, Amazon India has announced the creation of over 1.1 lakh seasonal job opportunities across its operations network. This move aims to meet increased consumer demand across major cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and others.
The hiring includes both direct and indirect roles, ensuring seamless operations during the peak shopping period. A notable portion of these hires includes thousands of women associates and nearly 1,900 persons with disabilities (PWD).
By hiring a diverse workforce, the company aims to provide opportunities to women and PWDs, integrating them into its fulfilment and logistics network.
The majority of the new recruits have already joined Amazon, and many will continue working with the company beyond the festive season, reflecting Amazon’s emphasis on long-term job creation and community impact.
Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, lauded Amazon’s efforts, stating that the company’s commitment to creating over one lakh seasonal jobs is a commendable contribution to India’s workforce.
He further praised Amazon’s focus on hiring women and persons with disabilities, alongside initiatives prioritising associate well-being through health, safety, and educational programmes.
Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, emphasised that the company’s goal is to provide customers with fast and reliable deliveries during the festive season while ensuring the well-being of all associates.
Amazon has implemented several initiatives to support its workforce, including project Ashray, which offers resting points for delivery associates across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
Additionally, the Sushruta health initiative provides comprehensive healthcare support to truck drivers, and the Pratidhi scholarship aids associates’ children in accessing quality education.
Amazon India has also focused on building industry-leading infrastructure to ensure a safe and comfortable work environment for associates. This includes providing access to safe drinking water, air-conditioned cafeterias, and on-site medical facilities.
Additionally, associates receive financial well-being support through initiatives like Samriddhi camps, which help upskill workers and promote financial literacy by enrolling them in government support programmes such as E-Shram and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana.
Amazon’s growing infrastructure network, which spans 15 states with 43 million cubic feet of storage, is supporting over 1.4 million sellers across India.
