Airtel’s Chairman, Sunil Mittal, has called for government regulation of both cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence (AI) in India. Addressing the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Annual Business Summit 2025, Mittal emphasized the need for clear regulatory frameworks to oversee these burgeoning sectors.
His remarks come on the heels of the Supreme Court highlighting the current lack of comprehensive regulation surrounding crypto assets in India. The court’s observation underscores the growing pressure on the government to establish guidelines for the digital asset space. Mittal’s support for regulation signals a growing consensus within the Indian business community on the necessity of a structured approach to manage the opportunities and challenges presented by crypto and AI. The implementation of such regulations could potentially foster innovation while mitigating risks associated with these technologies.
