The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) has come out swinging against the recently released report on anti-competitive practices by large tech companies.
According to AIC, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance’s report was prescriptive, absolutist, and regressive. The industry body also stated that the panel’s recommended digital competition law could stifle digital innovation in the country. According to the AIC, incorporating legislation from other countries into India could have an impact on innovation and investment in India. The industry body urged the centre to hold broader stakeholder consultations before enacting new space laws. In a damning report issued last month, a Parliamentary panel urged the government to enact a digital competition law to rein in big tech players.
