Rajaa further mentioned that the government signed six MoUs across multiple high-impact sectors, attracting INR 900 Cr in investments and creating over 4,000 high-quality jobs for the state
These investments include Nokia’s R&D centre in Siruseri, PayPal’s expansion of its AI-ML-focused development centre in Chennai, semiconductor innovations led by Microchip in Coimbatore
The Tamil Nadu government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with tech giant Google to set up ‘Tamil Nadu AI Labs’ in Chennai.
In a post on X, Industrie Minister TRB Rajaa said, “During our visit to Google HQ today, we signed an MoU to set up ‘#TamilNaduAILabs’ at Guidance_TN in Chennai, in partnership with Google!”
The minister further said that the partnership aims to skill 2 Mn youngsters in AI through the Naan Mudhalvan programme, collaborate with startups and support MSMEs and the rural economy.
This comes on the back of Chief Minister M K Stalin’s visit to the US.
Rajaa further mentioned that the government signed six MoUs across multiple high-impact sectors, attracting INR 900 Cr in investments and creating over 4,000 high-quality jobs for the state.
These investments include Nokia’s R&D centre in Siruseri, PayPal’s expansion of its AI-ML-focused development centre in Chennai, semiconductor innovations led by Microchip and Yield Engineering Systems in Coimbatore, an advanced AI tech development centre by Applied Materials, and Infinx’s technology centre in Madurai.
“With #CMStalinInUS, Tamil Nadu is racing into a new era of tech #RnD, #semiconductors design, and #AI!” Rajaa added in the post.
This comes at the heart of more and more big tech companies looking to invest in India to cater to the country’s growing demand after the post-pandemic surge in digitisation.
Earlier this month, Google kickstarted manufacturing its Pixel 8 smartphone in the country. The company’s executives are also bullish on India’s huge growth potential in the premium smartphone segment.
Earlier this year, Google was also said to be in advanced talks to buy a 22.5-acre land parcel in Navi Mumbai’s Juinagar to build the tech giant’s first-ever captive data centre in India for INR 850 Cr.

The tech major has already reportedly signed multiple deals for leasing space at colocation data centres in Navi Mumbai and Noida.
