IAMAI to Delhi Govt: Don’t penalise drivers and bike taxi aggregators

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has written to the Delhi government urging it not to penalise drivers and bike taxi aggregators. This has come on the back of the state government’s order to companies such as Ola, Uber and Rapido to stop bike taxi services immediately.

The internet industry body, which represents startups like Ola, Uber, Rapido, Zomato, and Swiggy as well as tech titans like Apple and Google, stated that the central government’s motor vehicle aggregator guidelines issued in 2020 encourage aggregators to use non-transport vehicles. The internet industry body asked the Delhi government not to take any coercive measures against the companies’ vehicle owners while the government works on a draught aggregator policy that includes bike taxis. It also asked the state government to hold a stakeholder consultation as soon as possible to discuss the next steps.
