MeitY to work with internet intermediaries to create a framework for “trusted fact checkers”

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will reportedly work with internet intermediaries like Google and Meta to create a framework for “trusted fact checkers”.

On Thursday, the ministry met with representatives from companies such as Google, Meta, and Koo to discuss the issue, according to Business Standard. The tech companies also discussed various aspects of content fact-checking on their platforms. The government intends to use the fact-check mechanism to address concerns about deepfake videos and AI-generated misinformation. It plans to address this through a “self-regulation process” in collaboration with intermediaries and fact-checking organisations.
