Snapchat has introduced the Lens Creator Rewards Program, a fresh initiative aimed at motivating Augmented Reality (AR) lens creators and developers by providing financial incentives for crafting popular Lenses. This program presents an opportunity for creators to potentially earn up to $7,200 (approximately INR 5.9 lakhs) per month if their Lenses gain significant popularity in the United States, India, or Mexico. Initially focusing on these three countries, the program will also extend to creators from 40 eligible nations if their Lenses exhibit strong performance in the targeted markets.

Sophia Dominguez, Snapchat’s Director of AR Platform Partnerships and Ecosystem, explained that the program will commence with a gradual approach and will evolve based on feedback from the community. While the precise criteria for the rewards program are yet to be outlined, it will consider metrics such as views, Lens-specific measurements, and user engagement duration. Further details will be unveiled during the program’s rollout.

Eligible Lens creators will be notified of their reward qualification through email and alerts within their creator hub. The AR creator community on Snapchat has expressed enthusiasm for this new initiative. Lens creator Paige Piskin conveyed her excitement, stating,“I’m really excited and motivated by the new rewards program. It encourages me to create more lenses and delve into new methods and techniques.”

Snapchat’s decision to monetize AR Lenses marks a significant stride in the AR industry. With an extensive AR creator community comprising over 300,000 individuals and teams, and a cumulative creation of more than 3 million Lenses, these AR creations have garnered over 5 trillion views from users. The Lens Creator Rewards Program has the potential to foster a more gratifying environment for AR creators globally.
